Tyre fitting

Tyres fitted in Crowthorne

Crowthorne is four miles up Nine Mile Ride from the workshop, so tyres are usually a single short trip. We will confirm the fitted price before you commit, and we are happy to talk through whether all-season tyres are worth it for the lanes you actually drive.

about four miles from Crowthorne (RG45) via Nine Mile Ride or the B3348

  • Fitted price, not a headline price

What we quote includes fitting, balancing and getting rid of the old tyre, so the figure does not grow at the counter.

  • Matched to your car properly

Correct size, load index and speed rating for what you drive — not the nearest thing in stock.

  • Told honestly when you can wait

If a tyre has legal life left we will say so. We would rather you came back than bought something you did not need.

All-season tyres and untreated lanes

The case for all-season tyres round here is the lanes rather than deep snow. Standard summer rubber hardens as the temperature drops and loses grip below roughly seven degrees, well before there is any ice about — so on a cold, damp, unsalted lane a summer tyre is working against you even on a clear morning. All-season tyres stay pliable in the cold and carry the three-peak mountain snowflake marking. They are a genuine compromise rather than a magic fix, and they wear slightly faster in summer heat.

We also cover Owlsmoor, Little Sandhurst, Wildmoor, Edgbarrow and Pinewood, all within a short run of the workshop.

Tyres fitted in Crowthorne — common questions

How far is your workshop from Crowthorne?
About four miles, up Nine Mile Ride or round on the B3348 — roughly ten minutes. Most Crowthorne tyre jobs are done while you wait or the same morning.
Are winter or all-season tyres worth it in Berkshire?
For most people all-season is the sensible middle ground. You keep cold-weather grip without swapping tyres twice a year or storing a second set, which suits our climate better than full winter tyres — those are excellent in snow but wear quickly once it warms up.
Can I fit all-season tyres to just the front?
We would not recommend it. Mixing tyres with very different cold-weather behaviour across the car makes it handle unpredictably in exactly the conditions you bought them for. Fit them as a full set if you are going to fit them at all.
What is the legal minimum tyre tread in the UK?
1.6mm across the central three quarters of the tread, all the way around the tyre. Below that it is up to £2,500 and three penalty points per tyre, and grip in wet weather drops off well before you reach the limit.
Do you need my registration or my tyre size?
Either works. The size is moulded into the sidewall, like 205/55 R16 91V. If the car has had different wheels fitted at some point, the sidewall is the more reliable of the two.
