Half term is the time for family trips, whether that's down the M3 to the coast, up the M4 to see the grandparents, or a day out in the countryside. A fully loaded car on a long run puts more strain on everything, so give it ten minutes before you set off.
- Tyre pressures: many cars need higher pressures when fully loaded. Check the chart in your handbook or on the door frame.
- Oil and coolant: top up if either is near the minimum mark.
- Screenwash: long motorway runs use loads of it.
- Lights: it'll be dark by teatime once the clocks change.
- Breakdown cover: check it's in date and the number is saved in your phone.
- An emergency kit: a blanket, torch, phone charger, water and some snacks.
If there's a warning light on the dashboard, or a noise you've been ignoring, get it looked at before the trip, not on the hard shoulder. Our diagnostics will tell you exactly what's going on, explained in plain English.
